Beertopia Hong Kong 2014

Oktoberfest in Munich is definitely in my bucket list. It will take me some time and lots of money to get there but im sure ill experience that. Meanwhile in Asia, particularly in Hong Kong, home brewing and craft beer became an instant hit. Correct me if i'm wrong, i believe the craft beer and home-brewing scene in Hong Kong is less than 5 years but you'll notice the big change in the consumers buying trend. Another Good thing about Hong Kong is that they have a big population of American and European expats whom are big fans of craft beers thus spreading beer gospel is as easy as 123. That's why beertopia Hong Kong is successful. The experience is awesome and i'm inviting beer lovers to try it yourself next year!

The moment i learned about BeertopiaHk, i already emailed my potential beer drinking friends to join me in the festival and only Howard responded positively. I bought the ticket for 342 HKD early bird price from the original 392HKD. The fee includes 10 tokens that you can use to purchase or taste beers that you wanted. Mind you, you have to be wise and a procrastinator once in a while because choosing from 400+ craft beer is no easy task! They strategically placed the festival at West Kowloon Waterfront, i think that area is in the middle so that people from both Hong Kong and Kowloon side can easily join the festival. Its very organized, they have fake tattoos of the event, they have souvenirs, live bands, djs, toilets, ganes , singles booth and the best thing i noticed is that the festival closes at 11pm, they gave the goers 1 hr allowance before the MTR closes.

I saw lots of my favorite craft beer brands like
Hitachino Nest from Japan

Brewdog from UK/Scotland

Over 400 craft beers to choose from. American, German, Belgian, Japanese, Hong Kong, Israel, Spanish, British, China and others too many to mention. I really think Philippine Craft Beer makers should participate next year. Special mention to Katipunan Craft, Fat Pauly's handcrafted Ales and Lagers, Craftpoint Brewing and other budding home brewers of the Philippines, let your presence be felt!

Boxing Cat brewery from Shanghai with master brewer Michael Jordan

Mikkeller of Denmark

Rogue Ales of USA

Various craft beers ready to be chugged

Affligem Tripel of Belgium

Hundreds of Chilled Craft Beers

Anderson Valley of USA

Fucking Hell of Germany (Fucking is a town in Austria, btw)

Duvel of Belgium

Who's thirsty now? I haven't mentioned that the event also had awesome food to go with the beers. See the menu here.

After seeing all these beer in one event is really heaven for beer lovers like me! I also want this to happen in Manila maybe in the next 5 years when the market for craft beers are surmountable already. Lets not all be eager because half baked festivals are just bad publicity, so lets not rush things, it will happen.

I also met the president of Hong Kong Homebrewers association and one of the organizer of Beertopia Hong Kong, Mr. Joshua Wolper. And of course when you meet a "kabayan" in another country, you always get something from them! Thanks Marlon!
